Wilshaw Well Walk 2023

The 2023 Wilshaw Welly Walk was hit by wet weather, meaning numbers were down on the highs of 2022. However, those who braved the damp conditions had a fantastic day and yet more money was raised for the ongoing works.

250 Mile  Italian Sponsored Walk raises VH Funds!

Update: Christine has now completed her walk and actually walked nearly 300 miles around Italy. Well done!

Donations are still coming in and can still of course be made but the indications are that the £750 target has already been exceeded.

Thanks to everyone who has donated, and thank you very much Christine for supporting the Village Hall.

Christine is walking the Via Francigena: Part 3: Lucca to Rome, Italy, for Wilshaw Village Hall, West Yorkshire, UK

Christine says:

Starting on the 28th April I am walking from Lucca to Rome (250 miles) arriving in Rome on the 20th May 2023. Every pound donated will go directly to Wilshaw Village Hall, West Yorkshire, UK. My family and I moved to Wilshaw a few years ago and we have been welcomed into the community wholeheartedly.

My aim is to raise funds for the improvement of the Village Hall which is a community owned and run historic hall, 150 years old this year. A wide variety of events and activities are held throughout the year for the local community and beyond. It is a registered charity and since 2018 the Wilshaw Village Hall Trust has been committed to renovating the building and facilities. Look on this website to see what has been achieved so far and the work there is still to do.

Thank you for contributing to this charity and please follow me on Facebook and Instagram.

You can donate online (anonymously) using Paypal  and if you are a taxpayer this allows you to boost your donation by 20% with gift aid. Alternatively you can sponsor me in person or directly into the Wilshaw Village Hall Trust bank account sort code 08-92-99 A/C no 67268241.

Anything, however small, will be greatly appreciated

Cocktail "Fun"draising

A "fun"draising cocktail evening was held in November 2022, raising hundreds of pounds to support ongoing renovation works at Wilshaw Village Hall. The village came together over cocktails, mocktails and food and had a great evening.

SALSA SUCCESS

The Fund raising Salsa evening in March was a great success. It was completely sold out and everyone had such a good time that the Salsa instructors have decided to hold regular classes, (see poster in what's on)

Wilshaw Welly Walk 2022

The 2022 Welly Walk was held on 25 September. The weather was kind and the two great new, 5 mile and 8 mile routes were a big success. Both routes shared a refreshment stop at about 2.5 miles and nobody got too seriously lost! The amount raised won't be confirmed for some time due to the delays in online gift aid support coming through however, it has undoubtedly been one of our best fund raisers so far. Plans are already beginning on routes for 2023. You can download the route instructions for both 2022 routes here.

NEW OUTSIDE SEATING

April 2022 We have kindly been given a £700 grant by Meltham Town Council towards the purchase of two traditional cast iron framed benches and a large recycled plastic picnic bench to complement our newly resurfaced Car Park. The remainder of the cost has been provided by private donation.

PLANNING updates

29 March 2022 We applied for the discharge of three planning conditions relating to the construction of a new room above the kitchen with a balcony overlooking the hall. This would be the last major step in our long standing plans to develop the hall following it's purchase by the community in 2018. This is a major expense which is currently unfunded but which we believe will increase the versatility and appeal of the building significantly. Any suggestions or offers of assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

21st April after a very long struggle involving an appeal to the planning inspectorate we finally received planning permission to replace the old scruffy, inefficient single glazed windows. These have now been fitted and are a great improvement in many ways. The picture alongside illustrates the difference they and the car park resurfacing have made.
